LaraStar's Journal, 19 Oct 11

I went for an early morning run despite the cold and rain. I established a nice breathing rhythm and was running quite easily. It gets better the lighter you are. But after 15 min the cold air got to me. My lungs were burning and I was coughing. Also had a taste of blood in my mouth. I walked the rest of the way. I am so disappointed because I could have run for much longer if it hadn't been for the cold air. I will stick to walking for now. Weight keeps dropping slowly. Lots of people have asked me if I'm done with losing weight now. I look good in clothes but I need to drop more to feel confident in a bikini.

Fantastic that people are noticing your weight loss :-). I hate it when you feel you could have done more - but have to stop for some reason. There's always tomorrow

Awesome that your looking good in your clothes...Do you have asthma?? I do and thats one of the reasons I can not run...I can't breathe if I get too excerted too fast...Winter cold is also worse for me...Have a great day....☺

It's frustrating when you are keen to exercise, your mind is in it but your body lets you down. Will stick to indoors exercise for now.

BHA...I don't have asthma, but I get coughs and colds a few times a year. And I don't smoke. I had really psyched myself up for this run, I'm so disappointed. Still coughing now. I know a few asthmatics who run (not in the cold). They started off very slowly, almost at walking speed. It's all about getting into proper breathing, not overdoing it. But there is lots of other exercise you can do. I love going through my wardrobe, there are so many nice clothes that fit me again. I might have to get some dresses altered, I am not keeping anything that is too big now.

Have you maybe tried intervals instead of a full run, at least in the cold air? it isn't fun when you know you can do more but something holds you back.

New MrsRando...I think you're right. Should have done intervals. I will give it another try, thanks.

my son has exercise induced asthma. you might look into it if it keeps happening. it hasnt stopped him from playing sports altogether. he just has to keep a careful watch out for how he is breathing and take it easy if his asthma acts up. good luck to u. i understand your disappointment. im glad you listened to your body and went for a long walk instead. you didnt completely give up, and thats the most important thing.

Stacy, it's not that I can't breathe, it just burns all the way down my airway into my lungs. I wasn't even short of breath. It always happens in cold weather, never when it's warm. And I get a bronchitis like cough for a few days afterwards. Maybe I am just a weakling :(

So when are you coming to NYC for the marathon, Miss Lara? We anxiously await you.  And you are definitely no weakling!

Yesterday's episode has thrown me a bit. The marathon is in November? Looking back, I have never exercised outdoors during the cold months because of that problem. Need to toughen up!
