stacy robbins's Journal, 12 Oct 11

watched a show the other night about an overweight young lady trying to lose weight. They did a body scan to show her where all her fat was located. It was pretty interesting. It showed all the expected fat she had covering her whole outside body. What was interesting and scary was all the fat it showed around her internal organs putting stress on her heart, liver, kidneys, etc. What an eye-opener. I never thought about it before but of course there is fat everywhere! Im wondering if the fat around your organs is harder to get rid of or if it goes away with all the rest? The thought of all that "hidden" fat is even more motivation for me to stick with it and get healthy!

I bet that was really interesting. What's also scary is, you don't have to be obese or even overweight, to have this "hidden fat". I have been reading about "normal weight obese" .... Which I am. I am almost to the "healthy" weight BMI (about 3-4 pounds to go) BUT my body fat % is high (anything 30% or over is considered too high). Luckily my "visceral fat" is ok - that's the fat around your middle that covers your internal organs - so I must carry all my fat around my bum and legs. Here's just one of the websites about "normal weight obese" - if you type that into a search organ there are other articles (not masses, as they don't seem to know loads about it - or how to deal with it effectively). http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/normal-weight-obesity/AN02007 Some of the websites I have looked at, give astonishing figures on the number of people who are "normal weigh obese". Most people may not even know - it's only if you have body analyser scales, or go to a gym and be measured, that you know. Some websites say it is caused by a hormone issue - it was a FS buddie that talked about Adiponectin (which I did some research on) that made me discover the NWO. Sigh.... Just something else to worry about lol

thanks for the info Sk1nny. im gonna do some reading up, as well. I would love to find out my body fat % also. are you finding out how to lower that percentage? is it a matter of weight loss? or what you are eating over time to get rid of it?

Oh how I wish I had the answer Stacy. I am taking omega 3 now and am going to get some coconut oil... And have just started HIIT (high impact interval training) .... Got some good info from Jsfantome... She put a topic called "no name diet" I think.

BF comes down as you lose weight. But veeeeeeerrrrrryyyy slowly! Calorie deficit is the best way to lose fat but you need to strengthen you muscles so they don't disappear too.

well i have plenty to lose. and i have a sneaky feeling my original goal weight of 135 is not gonna get it! of course everything will play itself out the way its going to and i just guessed anyway. I am completely ready to adjust as i go. and i think weight training is key. I have coconut oil too so that is good.

@LaraStar.... Hope you are right. I am banking on getting to my healthy weight and then I am hoping that the BF will start coming down too. Fish oil, coconut oil, HIIT is insurance in case it doesn't

Skinny that's my plan too. It IS coming down, just slower than weight. I will do another measurement at the end of this week. My muscles are getting stronger and the percentage is up. So it must be fat I'm losing. When I was a few lbs lighter than now, you could see my six pack even though I wasn't exercising at the time. So a few more lbs off and we'll see.

Fantastic LaraStar - I can see and feel my muscles now - even hubby has noticed - but my "lean" isn't going up!! I am sure it will all sort itself out in the end :-). Mustn't stress over it ... Frustrating though, 'cause I don't know how to change it.
